Walking Together at Life’s Most Sacred Moments

For the Felician Sisters of North America, accompaniment has always been at the heart of mission—walking with people in moments of hope, struggle, joy and profound vulnerability. This spirit of presence is what draws the Sisters so closely to the work of Angela Hospice and inspires continued partnership in caring for individuals and families at the end of life.

Hospice care reflects the Felician commitment to dignity, compassion and care for the whole person—body, mind and spirit. At Angela Hospice, patients are not defined by diagnosis or prognosis, but honored for who they are and the lives they have lived. Families are supported not only through clinical excellence, but through kindness, listening, and deep respect for the sacredness of life’s final chapter. This approach mirrors the Sisters’ long-standing belief that every moment of life holds meaning and deserves reverence.

The Felician charism calls us to respond to human need wherever it is found, especially among those who are vulnerable or burdened. Hospice caregivers and volunteers embody this call daily—sitting at bedsides, offering comfort, easing pain and simply being present when words are no longer needed. In these quiet, holy spaces, compassion becomes a ministry and accompaniment becomes a gift.

Care, however, extends beyond the patient alone. Families and caregivers often carry tremendous emotional, physical, and spiritual weight, especially as they navigate anticipatory grief and exhaustion. Recognizing this, the Felician Sisters also support ministries that provide respite and renewal for caregivers—an essential but often overlooked form of care.

This gentle, welcoming space invites caregivers to step away from their responsibilities, even briefly, to rest, reflect, and be nourished. Whether caring for a loved one at the end of life or supporting someone through long-term illness, caregivers are given permission to pause—to breathe, to share and to remember that their own well-being matters too.

Just as Angela Hospice walks alongside families during life’s most tender moments, Maryville offers caregivers a place of renewal so they can continue their journey with strength and hope.

For the Felician Sisters, these ministries are not separate efforts, but expressions of one mission: to witness God’s love through presence, service and reverence for human dignity at every stage of life. In hospice rooms, retreat spaces, and quiet moments of prayer, the same truth echoes—no one walks alone.

As we continue to support Angela Hospice, we remain grateful for the many caregivers, hospice professionals, and volunteers who live this mission each day. Their work is a testament to compassion in action and a reminder that even in life’s most difficult moments, love and grace abound.

Celebrating World Music Therapy Week

Music therapists across the globe are celebrating World Music Therapy Week to advocate for the benefits of music therapy to improve lives all over the world. While music may sound different from land to land, music has similarities in how we express our humanity.

Did you know most countries use music in play, to accompany work, tell stories of our ancestry or culture, support spiritual identities, celebrate, sooth babies, learn information (such as the alphabet song), support times of mourning, or for simple enjoyment? Music is an accessible companion that expresses who we are and validates our emotions. While music is in one sense is a universal language; it is in another sense deeply personal and effects each individual in a unique way.
