Endless Opportunities

Dr. Terri L. Mack thinks the world is Angela Hospice’s oyster.

“I think that whatever they decide to do, they can do,” said Dr. Mack, who joined the Angela Hospice board in September.

And during her tenure Dr. Mack will be a part of the driving force that continues to move Angela Hospice forward.

Even though Dr. Mack was surprised to be asked to be on the board, it comes as no shock to anyone who knows her passion for hospice and palliative care, and her background.

She’s not only a six-time healthcare community advocate award winner; a Member in Good Standing with both the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine, and the American College of Physicians; but also has decades worth of experience in the non-profit sector as a medical director.

That experience in non-profits also includes her time working at Angela Hospice, where she was the Assistant Medical Director from 2016-2017. At that time, she worked closely with Angela Hospice Chief Medical Director Dr. James Boal, one of the many faces she was excited to reconnect with when we spoke.

“It will be a joy to meet some new faces too, and to be able to serve in a different manner,” Dr. Mack said. “And hopefully bring my work experiences, life experiences, and previous board experience to this work and in a positive manner.”

She already has the hospice heart, something she spoke highly about when it came to her former co-workers too. Dr. Mack saw them do their work with great compassion during her time at Angela Hospice.

The compassion at the core of all Angela Hospice does – along with how forward-thinking the organization is – are two of the biggest reasons she felt so honored to be invited on the board.

Dr. Mack said she simply hopes to be able to support Angela Hospice’s goals, including promoting education and awareness for all the benefits that hospice can offer.

She wishes people knew hospice isn’t something to be afraid of, but something to embrace.

“People are afraid… that you are one, giving up, or two, you’re dying tomorrow, and that’s very untrue,” Dr. Mack said. “I think a better awareness and understanding will go a long way, and I really think that that’s probably going to happen at the grassroots level.”

Endless opportunities await Dr. Mack and the Angela Hospice team to lead the charge on that front, making the world Dr. Mack’s oyster too.

The Season of Creation

If you have ever been in the Care Center you may have noticed the intentionality around including nature in the architecture; how every room has a large window and view into the natural world. The landscape and water features are also no mistake as they are meant to evoke our senses and wonder for God’s creation, along with bringing about a sense of peace. And of course, many creatures frolic in these grounds as well.
