Prenatal Hospice

My Nest is Best Program

Watch a Video about Angela Hospice’s Prenatal Hospice Program.

The Angela Hospice Prenatal Program was designed to serve parents who are facing the knowledge that their unborn baby may not survive or may be born with a life-limiting illness.

Our Prenatal Team seeks to address the emotional and physical needs of parents before the baby is born, and helps them cope with the prognosis that the baby may not survive.

Starting prenatal services

For the greatest benefit, prenatal hospice care should be initiated as soon as a mother is referred to a high-risk obstetrician, but care may also begin during the birth process or shortly thereafter.

For more information, or to request prenatal hospice services, call our referral center at 734.464.7810 or complete our contact form.

How is care provided?

The Angela Hospice prenatal team consists of a hospice physician, nurse, and social worker. This team works directly with the family and the mother’s physician to develop a birthing plan, including making decisions about medical intervention and other issues, and offers counseling and bereavement support to the parents and other family members. They also provide assistance in securing keepsakes and mementos such as photographs, a lock of hair, a memory book, and handprints.

Should the baby survive, the prenatal team will work with the family to coordinate a plan of care, including discharge to home, if possible.
