Your Opportunities
- Demonstrates basic knowledge of the purpose, intent, and function of music therapy for hospice patients
- Demonstrates basic knowledge of philosophical, psychological, physiological, and sociological bases for the use of music as therapy
- Demonstrates basic knowledge of the use of current technologies in music therapy assessment, treatment and evaluation
- Instructs patients individually in prescribed instrumental or vocal music and music projective techniques such as guided imagery, progressive relaxation, or awareness of conscious feelings
- Communicates assessment findings and recommendations in written and verbal forms by communicating with the interdisciplinary team and documenting in the EMR
- Observes and records accurately the client’s responses to assessment
- Selects and implements effective culturally based methods for assessing the client’s assets and problems through music
- Identifies the client’s therapeutic needs through an analysis and interpretation of music therapy and related assessment data
- Selects or creates music therapy experiences and settings that meet the needs of the client
- Formulates goals and objectives for individuals based upon assessment findings
- Provides preliminary estimates of frequency and duration of treatment
- Offers sensory stimulation that allows the client to use visual, auditory, or tactile cues
- Promotes relaxation and/or stress management in music therapy sessions
- Utilizes therapeutic verbal skills in music therapy sessions
- Sequences and paces music experiences within a session according to the client’s needs and situational factors
- Creates a physical environment (e.g. arrangement of space, furniture, equipment, and instruments) that is conducive to effective therapy
- Develops and maintains a repertoire of music for age, culture, and cognitive differences
What You Bring
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Music Therapy from an AMTA accredited university
- Board Certified as a Music Therapist by the Certification Board for Music Therapy
- Minimum of 1 year experience in a health care setting preferred
- Hospice and Palliative Care Music Therapist preferred
- Understands hospice philosophy, and issues of death/dying
- Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication, and organizational skills
- Must be a licensed driver with an automobile that is insured in accordance with state and/or organization requirements
