Diane Smith

Director of Catholic Social Teaching

Diane Smith has been a part of the Angela Hospice team since 2018, bringing with her nearly 20 years in spiritual care in the hospice setting. As a member of the Angela Hospice Executive Leadership Team, Diane has worn many hats, including Director of Ministry Engagement, Chief Diversity Officer, and now Director of Catholic Social Teaching. She also directs Angela Hospice’s African American Church Empowerment Project.

Her work prior to Angela Hospice took her all over the world. As a missionary in Japan, she worked as an English lecturer at Osaka Women’s Junior College; she served as Lead Spiritual Care Advisor for Arbor Hospice; and she was a chaplain at Community Hospice Care in southern California.

An ordained minister who has worked in ministry for over 40 years, Diane holds a Master of Divinity from Claremont School of Theology, and is a board-certified chaplain with the Association of Professional Chaplains. Currently, she serves on the board of the Interfaith Round Table of Washtenaw County, and is a member of the Michigan Oncology Quality Consortium (MOQC)’s Centering Equity Advisory Committee, as well as the Ministerial Alliance of Ypsilanti, Ann Arbor and Vicinity.
